The Funeral Planning Authority (FPA) has been regulating providers of prepaid funeral plans in the UK since 2002. We are passionate about driving up industry standards, and ensuring all providers registered with us adhere to a strict set of Rules and a Code of Practice. The extensive checks we carry out, and the scrutiny we apply gives customers reassurance that if they buy from an FPA registered provider, they can expect to be treated properly and receive the funeral they’ve paid for when they need it.
We are not a membership body that providers can simply pay to join. Any provider that chooses to register with us must consistently show they’re operating to a high standard and looking after customer interests properly. We check this is happening regularly.Read more
We want to make sure as many funeral plan providers as possible are operating to a high standard. Our main role is to check what funeral plan providers do to protect customer’s money – ensuring the funeral can be provided when it’s needed. We do this through an initial registration process, then through annual checks with all of our registered providers, where we look closely at their financial arrangements, how they deal with customers, and we make sure they’re behaving properly when selling and administering plans.
We also help customers if they have any complaints about FPA registered providers that they’ve not been able to resolve directly with the provider in question. On the rare occasion this happens, the FPA can step in and support with our independent dispute resolution process. We want to ensure customers are not left on their own to deal with any problems relating to their funeral plan.Read more
