Reviewing funeral payments in Scotland
The Scottish Government have recently launched a consultation into social security, giving people the chance to help shape the system.
The consultation explores among other things, funeral payments, which are currently available for people on low incomes. There are concerns around the current system, so the Scottish Government are proposing a more streamlined benefit that is more integrated with other Scottish policy and services.
They are asking for views on what the new funeral payment should cover, eligibility, the application process and improving take up, with the overall objective of speeding up payments and making sure they reach more people in need.
The Funeral Planning Authority are helping to spread the word about the consultation within our networks. As such, we encourage any eligible person who wishes to input into the consultation to do so before it closes on Friday 28th October.
