Scottish Government Report on Funeral Poverty

Scottish Government Report on Funeral Poverty

The Scottish Government recently conducted a report exploring the various factors which contribute to funeral poverty, and called on the UK and Scottish Governments, the funeral industry, and local authorities to take action to tackle what they believe is an increasingly serious issue.

The report uncovered a number of issues, including inconsistencies in burial and cremation charges from local authorities, and funeral costs in general rising above inflation, which are all making it difficult for people to afford their own funerals or that of their loved ones.

We know there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ solution to tackling funeral poverty, but we believe that prepaid funeral plans have a very important part to play in easing it, and want to help deliver this message on behalf of the industry. We’ll also be keeping a close eye on suggestions that there should be a review of the regulatory regime for funeral plans and of course engage constructively with any debate on this – keeping you informed and updated as we do so.
